Experimental Testing of Passive Linear TMD for Postural Tremor Attenuation

Research interest to provide a mechanical solution for involuntary tremors is increasing due the severe side effects caused by medications used lessen its symptoms. This paper deals with design of cantilever-type tuned mass damper (TMD) prove effectiveness passive controllers in reducing tremor’s vibrational signals transmitted muscles hand segment. TMD tested on an experimental arm, reflecting flexion-extension motion wrist, excited shaker measured tremor signal patient essential tremor. The designed provides new operational frequency each position screw fixed beam. Modal damping ratios are also calculated using different methods position. quantified measurements vibrometer and inertial measurement unit. Three TMDs, representing 15.7% total ratio, cause reduction 29% acceleration, 69% velocity, 79% displacement, 67% angular 82% displacement signals. These encouraging results will allow improvement controller form wearable bracelet suitable daily life.
